Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Automotive Interior & Exterior Design Engineer to join a leading Automotive OEM in Chennai. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of experience in automotive product design, with expertise in interior and exterior components. You will play a key role in designing, developing, and optimizing vehicle aesthetics and functionality while ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and develop automotive interior and exterior components, including dashboards, door trims, seats, bumpers, grilles, and lighting.
Work with 3D CAD software (CATIA, Creo, or equivalent) to create detailed designs and models.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including styling, engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers.
Conduct DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFA (Design for Assembly) studies to optimize product feasibility.
Ensure designs meet safety, ergonomic, and regulatory standards for automotive interiors and exteriors.
Support prototype development, validation, and testing of new designs.
Troubleshoot design and manufacturing challenges, providing innovative solutions.
Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for material selection and tooling feasibility.
Maintain technical documentation and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Requirements:
B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Automotive, or Industrial Design Engineering.
5-10 years of experience in automotive interior and exterior design, preferably in an OEM environment.
Proficiency in 3D CAD software (CATIA V5, PTC Creo, or equivalent).
Strong understanding of plastics, sheet metal, and composite materials used in automotive design.
Experience in GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and tolerance stack-up analysis.
Familiarity with automotive regulations and standards for interior and exterior components.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate across global teams.
Preferred Skills:
Experience in Class-A surfacing and styling feasibility.
Knowledge of CAE, crashworthiness, and NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) considerations.
Exposure to tooling and manufacturing processes for interior and exterior trims.
